What is IPTV?

IPTV is a technlogy that is deployed over the copper of fibre networks to deliver Television. Phone companies are deploying this technology in a bid to compete against cable companies who have grabbed a large share of the internet,tv and long distance calling market. IPTV is a whole new interactive package that will allow customers to watch TV, browse the internet and make long distance calls using VoIP and all this on their broadband connection.

IPTV operates over a private IP Network. Over a private IP network, the provider can insure Quality of Service (QoS). IPTV is not TV over the internet. To most providers, IPTV refers to broadband with TV getting priority with the exception on VoIP (Voice Over IP).
